Scummvm launcher file2/17/2024 ![]() ".\3 - DOSBox\dosbox.exe" -conf dosboxT2K_addon. ".\3 - DOSBox\dosbox.exe" -conf dosboxT2K_nf -noconsole -c "exit" ".\3 - DOSBox\dosbox.exe" -conf nf -noconsole -c "exit" In the case of Tyrian 2000, I have four "conf" files:Įach file has a corresponding launcher file that tells DOSBox to load the "conf" file, like so: Then, I make a launcher for each "conf" file. I edit the "conf" files to be whatever I want based on personal preferences for DOSBox games. One of these will have to be created for each "conf" file if you want to have full access to all the game's launchers. ".\2 - ScummVM\scummvm.exe" -c beneath.ini beneathĭOSBox: I create a file named "1 - Launcher.bat" I add the prefix, so it's always at the top of my file list. This is my Beneath a Steel Sky launcher file:ĮCHO lastselectedgame=beneath > beneath.iniĮCHO description=Beneath a Steel Sky (v0.0372 cd) > beneath.ini The final line calls the updated SCUMMVM launcher and tells it which config and game save to use. The bottom set come straight from the "ini" file that was there before. ![]() The top set of settings are my personal settings that I find work well for me. I just use whatever GOG was using before. Each line in the following file should replace "beneath.ini" with some config filename that makes sense to you. SCUMMVM: I create a file named "1 - Launcher.bat" I add the prefix, so it's always at the top of my file list. The process is slightly different between SCUMMVM and DOSBox games. Unfortunately, every computer you plug your flash drive into may choose a different letter drive, so we have to write a launcher file that fetches the current location, writes a new configuration file, and then launches the game. Step 4: The problem with Windows is that the symbolic link just doesn't exist properly, so you can't get your games to launch when using a portable drive unless you hard-code the location. This isn't absolutely necessary, but I like to use the newest versions and only like to download them once (instead of copying them into every game folder). Make sure the "exe" files are at this directory level. I named mine "2 - ScummVM" and "3 - DOSBox" inside my "GOG" folder to make them appear at the top of my files list (I reserve "1 -" for installs). Step 3: Download the most recent versions of SCUMMVM and DOSBox and extract the contents into their own folders inside your portable folder. For instance, I have "Beneath a Steel Sky" and "Tyrian 2000" folders inside my "GOG" folder. My game folders all sit inside a folder named "GOG" on my flash drive. You'll know you have the right GOG folder, because it will have a "DOSBOX" or "ScummVM" folder inside it. Step 2: Move the game install folder into your new, portable folder. They don't pack their games as an executable archive, so the only way to get the files is through the install process. Step 1: Install the game using the GOG installer. You can do this easily for OS X and Linux, too, but I'm only documenting the Windows approach here (the Linux approach is actually easier). As well as it can without hardware rendering anyway.I like to keep my SCUMMVM and DOSBox on a flash drive to port around, and for posterity, I thought I would share my method with the community. ![]() The existence of this file auto diverts from the primary launcher. Sev was a bit brusque in closing your issue but you're fundamentally misunderstanding the use of scummvm files, so i thought i should clarify that here.ĭisregarding that, scummvm works well in retroarch, being uptodate from using the upstream files. Games supported by ScummVM give the user a choice between emulators. 'Most generic' = actually broken, in many games that setup variables in the ini. scummvm files without using the scummvm gui first is a scam that will cause you nothing but trouble later, because you're using the most 'generic' way of launching engines. This is all the program above does, create scummvm files in the games directories with the right 'id' to connect them to the ini file config, after using the core scanner (i really don't recommend doing that on that tiny screen either, probably should do both that and the playlists before transferring files). You shouldn't create those files manually, but from the scummvm file as a template (and you can fill the ini by starting the core without any game and using the scan buttons there). Basically the scummvm port expects that the contents of scummvm files match the contents of the scummvm.ini file created by scummvm. ![]()
